Our Program
We are a parent cooperative preschool, where parents are not only welcome, but are intimately involved in and out of the classroom. The cooperative nature of the school gives parents a greater understanding of their child’s experience in preschool and bridges the gap between home and school.
Being part of a cooperative school is a wonderful experience for the children as well as the parents. Children enjoy having a parent around on their “special work day”, as well as a whole community of parents who care about them. Parents contribute their own enthusiasm to the school and get to know other families through their work together.
Participating parents’ responsibilities include being a parent helper in the classroom one morning a week (8:45 am to 12:15 pm). All members of the school have to volunteer 20 hours per academic year (helping with fund-raising activities, weekend maintenance projects, etc.) and serve on the Board or as a Board helper. The school is a non-profit corporation with no individual owner, which means that the school is “owned and operated” by the families of enrolled children.
Choosing to join a cooperative school can be a very rewarding experience. For both the parent and the child it is an opportunity to learn and grow together as individuals and as a family, to form supportive bonds in the community and to create a positive foundation for future education.
