Michelle Carnahan - Director
iddie Kampus's Director, Michelle Carnahan,
has a BA degree in Liberal Studies with an Early Childhood emphasis and has worked in early childhood for nearly twenty years. She was an assistant pre-school teacher for Alameda Parks and Recreation before becoming the head teacher at
Godfrey Park for ten years. Michelle has been with Kiddie Kampus for four years and is a wonderful asset
to our expanding program.
Lori Whittock - Teacher
he preschool years of a child’s life are brief, magical times when anything
and everything is possible. Kiddie Kampus is an amazing program that encourages
children to explore and expand these possibilities. I am so lucky to be a part of this
magic and to grow up again and again with all our families. I begin each day thinking
about what new adventures I will encounter in the course of my day’s “work” as a
Kiddie Kampus teacher.
efore discovering my passion for playing Candy Land and stringing pony
beads onto pipe cleaners, I grew up in Wilmington, NC and completed my BS and
MS in Genetics and Agriculture at North Carolina State University. I spend the next
several years working at Cambridge University, meeting and marrying my husband,
Andy, and traveling around the United Kingdom and abroad. We moved to the East
Bay shortly before my first daughter, Josie, was born in 2002. Twins, Thomas and
Libby, soon followed in 2005. For the next five years I stayed busy while enjoying
my young children by serving on the Neighborhood Parents Network Board of
Directors, being a NPN Music Leader, and working as an Epworth Playgroup Leader.
Josie started preschool at Kiddie Kampus in 2005, providing my family with our first
experiences in cooperative, play based learning. In 2007, our family moved to New
Zealand to spend 2 years enjoying kiwi life.
pon returning to Alameda, we immediately enrolled our twins at Kiddie
Kampus and began the wonderful journey through early childhood education again.
I have been an advocate and active member of the Kiddie Kampus community since
we discovered the cooperative in 2005. I have served on the Board of Directors in
the Membership and President positions. I earned my Early Childhood Education
Certification through UCSC and have been working in my “dream job” as teacher of
this play-based, cooperative preschool since 2009.
oth Lori and Michelle's positive caring
attitudes toward the children uphold our preschool's goals, values, and beliefs.
"The supportive community of parents and the special talents that different families bring make Kiddie Kampus a special and unique environment. But by far, the heart of this program lies with the teachers. Michelle and Lori are both gifted and loving teachers in guiding this age group, and they work hard each and every day to accommodate the needs of every child and every family." - Parent feedback
